Common Questions
What is a Fat Bike?
A Fat Bike is just like a Mountain Bike but with extra wide wheels. The low tyre pressure and width creates a large tyre print to be able to ride on all hard, soft, wet, sandy surfaces such as along the beautiful tidal coastline of Cable Beach.
Fat Biking and the environment?
Pedal power is a really eco-friendly way of experiencing Cable Beach’s spectacular nature. The only sound you will hear are the tyres rolling on the sand and the waves crashing along the coast. We follow the ‘Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but tyre tracks’ philosophy, riding only below the high tide waterline meaning our tracks are washed clean every day.
Ages and weight concerns on a Fat Bike Tour?
The Fat Bikes are suited for riders aged 8years up to 75+ years. We have a set weight limit of 130kgs for the Fat Bikes. Enquire regarding any age or weight concerns.
Where and when do the tours start?
All of our Fat Bike tours begin and end on Cable Beach. The meeting place is approx. 300m along the Beach to the right, past the rocks, when facing the ocean from the main swimming section. Same area as where the Camel tours depart. Tours depart Daily from April – October and on demand November to March (wet season)
Who can ride a Fat Bike?
Anyone!! If you can ride a normal bike then you can ride a Fat Bike. It is as simple as that. The extra wide tyres even create a better traction and smoother ride. The Guide will also adapt the speed of the tour according to the guest’s abilities.
How fit do I have to be?
Just an average fitness is fine. If you can ride a bike we will ensure you will have a great time and enjoy the experience. Riders of all levels of fitness and skill are catered for and encouraged to participate. The overall pace of the group is adjusted each day to suit the riders on the day. If it’s your first time on a Fat Bike don’t worry it’s just the same as riding any bike.
How many people go on a tour?
We run tours with a minimum of two (2) people, and a maximum of ten (10). Single people are encouraged to book as trips are often confirmed in advance. Larger groups, Corporate, School, Family and Wedding groups can be catered for. Enquire if needed.
